Since its premiere in 1742, Handel’s Messiah has become an essential work of the holiday season, performed every year around the world.
Its powerful narrative of Christ’s birth, passion, and resurrection makes it far more than a simple Christmas concert — it is a musical meditation on the Christian mystery, carried by exalted choruses and a dramatic writing of great intensity. The final “Hallelujah”, a true moment of collective communion, continues to move audiences, reminding us of the universal power of this masterpiece that stands at the crossroads of the sacred and the celebratory.

W. A. Mozart’s Requiem
L’Harmonie des saisons celebrates its 15th anniversary in grand style!
To mark this milestone occasion, L’Harmonie des saisons — featuring soloists, choir, and orchestra — will present one of the greatest works in the sacred repertoire: W. A. Mozart’s Requiem. A specially assembled ensemble of 45 musicians from Canada, the United States, and Chile will deliver a powerful musical experience, suspended between funeral prayer and sacred drama.
Performed on period instruments, this iconic masterpiece will be brought to life with the same colors and sonic textures that the Viennese audience would have heard in 1791. The rich and resonant tones of natural horns, basset horns, classical trombones and bassoons, supported by the warm, organic sound of gut strings, will restore to this music its rare intensity — blending gravitas with poignant fragility.
Opening the program is a hidden gem: Miserere mei Deus by Marianna Martines (1744–1812), a brilliant composer and prominent figure of classical Vienna. Rarely performed, her sacred music — both noble and expressive — offers an emotionally resonant dialogue between a forgotten female voice and the genius of Mozart. A musical encounter as surprising as it is unforgettable.
- Saturday, November 1st at 2pm, Église Sainte-Famille, Granby
